TV Shipments Decline - But There Are Some Bright Spots

 

 2011, and so far 2012, haven't been good to TV manufacturers and retailers, and a continued slowing trend in overall TV shipments for the rest of 2012 is expected. While Worldwide TV shipments have declined, LCD TV shipments are still growing, but are expected to slow to 5% year-over-year growth for 2012, compared to 7% year-over-year for 2011. LCD TV now represent well over 80% of the total TV market, which also includes Plasma, DLP, and, in some areas of the World, CRT.

However, there is some encouraging news. 3D continues an upward growth trend, and shipments of LED/LCD and very large screen LCD TVs continue at an above average rate. On the other hand, everyone is holding their breath in anticipation on how much high-pricedOLED TVs will be embraced by the consumers as they start sliding into the market towards the end of 2012 and into 2013.
